Family & Children’s Services hosted a screening of the new documentary The Listeners at Circle Cinema on November 3. The film follows people who are training as volunteers for a suicide hotline and explores why they are willing to talk to total strangers about suicide.
The event sold out and The Listeners director and producer Bob Hurst joined the screening to participate in a Q&A with the audience along with Family & Children’s Services COPES (Community Outreach Psychiatric Emergency Service) program director Amanda Bradley and the CrisisCare Center chief program officer Ann Jenkins.
The audience had the opportunity to learn about the wonderful work that happens each and every day in the call centers similar to Family & Children’s Services Crisis and Suicide Hotline, which answers on average 650 calls a month.
