The Family & Children’s Services Diversity Committee serve as ambassadors of diversity and cultural competence for FCS employees. Specifically, the Cultural Competence Committee champions an organizational culture that embraces diversity and embodies the principles of recovery and rights for all. FCS is valued as a supportive and diversity-friendly work environment.
The committee was formed to promote the integration of cultural concepts, values and principles and practices and deliver culturally and linguistically responsive care to service participants. The committee is responsive to diverse cultural beliefs and practices, including the freedom to express and practice religious and spiritual beliefs.
As part of an FCS fundraiser for the Tulsa Area United Way, the committee hosted a “Taste of Diversity” luncheon event (June 7) at our Central location. Several guests including the Cherokee National Youth Choir, Native Nations Drum Group, Wise Moves Dance Academy and the Turkish flute musician, Soner, delighted the audience with diverse entertainment.
Seventy-five FCS employees attended the luncheon and raised $345 for the United Way. Multiple restaurants around Tulsa donated gift cards for a raffle – Glacier Confections, Kilkenny’s Irish Pub, Mary’s Trattoria, Queenie’s Café and Bakery and FCS Threads. Thanks to the surrounding businesses, we were able to raffle off $160 worth of gift cards.
