ABCO Party Rentals partnered with Family & Children Services to safely deliver doorstep meals to families in need.
ABCO Event Rentals has been on the front lines of Tulsa’s event industry for more than thirty years, supplying tables, chairs, tents, linens and place settings, so the company has weathered the ups and downs of the market. In December 2019, local event planning company TPC Studios acquired the business and has already made significant investments in upgrading the rental inventory, as well as completing a total remodel of the showroom at 2033 E. 11th Street in February of this year.
Some years, especially when oil and gas prices are down, the company has learned to be reactive and adjust accordingly. “Covid-19 is something different,” says Oscar Urbina, ABCO Manager. “Almost overnight, we saw the majority of our bookings disappear due to cancellations from event rentals that we were counting on to keep our staff of almost 40 workers busy.”
Like many businesses suddenly facing layoffs and loss of income during this pandemic, ABCO is adjusting to the current market. During the downturn, ABCO is volunteering with local non-profits and civic groups that may need some help during this unusual time. “We have a fleet of large trucks, and for now, a crew that can help non-profits keep their operations running,” says Talmadge Powell, co-owner of TPC Studios and ABCO Party Rental. “I reached out to Family & Children Services to see how we might be of assistance with the resources we have.”
Kaitlin Foster, senior program director of Family & Children Service’s adult mental health outpatient clinical services, is thankful for ABCO’s quick offer to help with pickup and deliveries to keep their food donation operations moving and to safely deliver doorstep meals to families in need. For the past three months, ABCO has helped distribute weekly meals to over 410 families in the Tulsa area impacted by the pandemic.
ABCO has added additional measures to ensure everything is sanitized, protected and ready to deploy as needed. Oscar also says, “We are just hoping we can be of service now to our community when they need us most and resume normal event celebrations as soon as possible.”
