The start of a new year is naturally filled with hope – the phrase “Happy New Year” is optimistic. Making New Year’s resolutions is a hopeful act denoting change is possible (even if we didn’t keep last year’s resolutions). We hope you like this updated newsletter format called FCS.TODAY. Our goal is to better communicate with you through this online news source where you will be able to find timely stories related to Family & Children’s Services.
Coming off of the holiday season, many people are hopeful that Family & Children’s Services can help them improve the things that went wrong in their lives. We are the place to turn for help. Last year we served 1 in 6 Tulsans and our numbers are growing.
Tulsans who turn to us are hopeful change is possible and their own resiliency can grow stronger. They are hopeful our physicians, therapists, pharmacists and other professionals have the right treatment for them. They are hopeful that through therapy, one day the grief they carry can become tolerable.
Lived experience teaches us that the power of hope can help people recover from their depression, mental illness or addiction; or children can be healed from the scars of sexual abuse and trauma.
Research tells us hope matters. Hope is real. Hope is powerful. Hope can energize and mobilize us. Hope can strengthen our resilience and provide a layer of protection against the slings and arrows of misfortune and tragedy. Hope supports positive qualities which promote confidence, optimism, and resilience.
If there is someone that can benefit from help, don’t hesitate to let them know that F&CS is a hopeful place that has 9 locations, extended hours and numerous programs and specializations. No one is denied service just because of their inability to pay.
You may have noticed the Family & Children’s Services New Year card and calendar art this year is two children releasing Khom loi lanterns (Khom loi is Thai for “floating lanterns”). It’s a beautiful sight. These lanterns are extremely popular in festivals around the world because people consider it good luck to release a sky lantern since it symbolizes their problems and worries floating away – the symbol of a new beginning. The symbol of hope.
Wishing you a warm and happy 2017,
