On August 3, Battle Creek Golf Club played host to the 22nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament organized by the Tulsa Career Women’s Golf Association (CWGA). This year, the beneficiary was none other than Women in Recovery (WIR), an organization committed to empowering women on their journey to healing and transformation.
Tess Schroeder, a dedicated member of CWGA, explained the significance of their annual charity event: “Each year, we select an organization through a popular vote. Women in Recovery has been an exceptional partner for CWGA. Despite our diverse backgrounds and life paths, we all recognize the challenges faced by women and the crucial need for mutual support.”
The companionship among CWGA members extends beyond the fairways. “Partnering with WIR,” Schroeder said, “allows us to combine our love for golf with a commitment to making a positive impact. It’s about more than just the game; it’s about enriching lives.”
And enrich lives they did. The tournament, attended by 80 passionate women golfers, unfolded as a resounding success. The funds raised directly benefit WIR’s programs, providing counseling, education and resources to women seeking recovery.
The CWGA is dedicated to promoting golf among women, providing a supportive environment for learning and enjoying the game. They host various events, including seasonal leagues and charity tournaments, to foster participation and friendship among members.
During the luncheon, WIR program director Dianne Hughes, alongside two WIR graduates, shared heartfelt testimonials and reinforced the impact of community support. Meanwhile, a silent auction offered an array of items, from golf memorabilia to spa packages, enticing those eager to contribute further.
The event ended with CWGA members departing with a sense of fulfillment. Their swings had not only propelled golf balls but also propelled positive change.
