Family & Children’s Services (FCS) is a 2019 Clarion Award winner for online media new website. Clarion Awards, a national competition run by the Association for Women in Communications, honors excellence in clear, concise communications.
FCS’s Chief Communications Officer Dee Harris, FCS’s Graphic Design and Creative Services Coordinator Julie Jones will be recognized at the AWC National Professional Development Conference this fall in St. Charles, Mo.
In 2018, FCS partnered with Ryan Haight with Asemio, a technology consulting company, to launch a new website by refreshing the FCS brand by delivering great content, design and visitor experiences.
Harris said, “It was important for us to simplify and optimize content updates and website management. Functional alterations were put into place to help with design and maintenance so that we could reach our communications and marketing goals.”
Goals for the new website included a new bold design linked to the FCS brand, clear calls to action and engaging communication about events, services and successes. On the backend, goals included easy customization and tagging options to increase search engine optimization. The result? Site visitors have increased 17-fold, almost doubling average session durations per user and decreasing the bounce rate by 28%.
The website serves as a hub and central repository of content that is easily shared and distributed via social media and email.
Started in 1972, the Clarion awards honor excellence in more than 100 categories across all communications disciplines, from advertising and marketing to books, CDs and brochures, to major news events, newspapers, online media, radio, and television. This year’s competition drew entries from 20 states and three countries, with 69 Clarions and Finalist Certificates awarded.
