In addition to working as a CrisisCare Center (CCC) therapist at Family & Children’s Services, James Patrick often attends drill on the weekends as a First Lieutenant of the Oklahoma National Guard and has been off and on leave for more than a year.
Patrick nominated his supervisor Sarah Saner for a Patriot Award, and she received a Department of Defense Certificate of Appreciation and a lapel pin recently during a CCC staff meeting.
“I was surprised to learn I was getting this award,” Saner said. “It feels great to know that James felt supported during the time he was away.”
Patriot Awards are awarded to individual supervisors, not an entire staff or the employing organization. Recipients are recognized for the support provided directly to National Guard and Reserve members. The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.
