Twenty-two strong, the Family and Children’s Services (FCS) Young Professional Advisory Council (YPAC) gathered at the Sarah and John Graves Center to celebrate the launch of the pilot year for YPAC.
YPAC was established with a three-part mission: Spread awareness about FCS, involve young professionals through volunteer opportunities and foster FCS future leaders through involvement.
“The board of directors discussed this idea a few years ago,” said Tom Taylor, FCS’s associate chief development officer. “With the growing interest from young professionals who attend White Party (WP), we recognized the need to steward these leaders. This year, FCS Board Member and past WP Chair Rob Sher took the idea to the next level and established the foundation for YPAC’s exciting pilot program.”
Sher said, “Recognized by many as one of the, if not the very, best non-profit events in our city, WP has grown to be a very successful event in attracting young Tulsans and getting the FCS name out in front of that same demographic. With YPAC, we are very excited about the opportunity to not only continue to attract young professionals in our community but take it to the next level and actually educate, train and empower them to come alongside FCS in making Tulsa a stronger community.”
The group will hold bi-monthly meetings between September and May and integrate seasonal volunteer opportunities such as Care Card, Holiday Assistance, Brainiac Ball, and WP11.
“We are hopeful, through our efforts in YPAC, that Tulsa will see a new generation of philanthropists emerge,” said Sher.
