Martin Joplin
Cybersecurity Engineer, Information Technology
Which branch of the military did you serve in, and why did you choose it?
U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard. This was the branch with a recruiter that convinced me that military service was a great way to pay for college.
What skills or values from your military service do you find most useful in your current role?
I think I learned the value of advanced planning contingency planning and communicating and executing a battle plan. It works well for business and especially well for cybersecurity.
What brought you to FCS?
When I heard the vision that our CIO (Chief Information Officer) and CTO (Chief Technology Officer) had for leveraging and technology with great security platforms, I was convinced that this was the place I wanted to serve.
What does Veterans Day mean to you personally?
I profoundly appreciate all who signed up and were WILLING to give last full measure of devotion to his/her country. I still get chocked up when I see the “missing man” formation in a flyover at a ball game or parade. That level of a unified willingness to sacrifice only happens once or twice in every generation.
How has your military experience influenced your career and life today?
I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve and make the lives of others better. It made me a better man, father, husband, and leader.
