Carlos Meeks
Clinical Supervisor, Pathways to Care
Which branch of the military did you serve in, and why did you choose it?
Army. My family has a legacy of military service. I wanted to reshape my life’s fundamental learning pillars and truly understand what/how disciple, responsibility and selfless service could change the projection of my future.
What skills or values from your military service do you find most useful in your current role?
I think the first thing I learned, was that the world is vastly different from Jackson, Miss. I had always been in leadership roles, but I felt like I did not possess the skills, confidence and tack to become a motivated, goal driven, compassionate leader. After leaving the military, I feel like I now have the first-hand experience, as well as the confidence, to become a dynamic leader in any situation I may encounter.
What brought you to FCS?
I wanted to have an immediate impact in my communities, learn skills to help heal and develop the know how to continue across the world, the world-class standard FCS has set.
What does Veterans Day mean to you personally?
Veterans Day to me is about thanking all the servicemen and servicewomen who walked steps before me, so I could have the opportunity to do what I love in the greatest nation in the world, The United States of America. I also like to inspire the younger generations and hopefully spark some positive moments which may lead them into walking in the same direction I have walked.
How has your military experience influenced your career and life today?
I believe the military has instill a sense of never giving up in my core thinking. This allows be to not feel defeated, to always find some optimism in horrible situation, and to never make myself bigger than the team. A person can do good things, but a team of good people can accomplish great things. I always want to go out and do some great things. One last belief of my time spent in the military was to never leave a situation the way you found it. I have selected my situation through careful thoughts, and every day, I get a chance to leave the world better than the way I found it! Hoah!
