Samuel Hickson
Adult Outpatient Therapist, LiveWell Team
How did you get started in the field?
I initially started in this field working with families in a field-based case management and parenting education role. One of the great things about Social Work is the variety of roles we can work in! I am grateful that I have been able to work in multiple roles and with different populations in my time in this profession.
Why did you go into social work?
I first found social work with the intent of working as a school counselor, although in my education and subsequent work experience, I am now on a path that I did not expect! I now find fulfillment through working with adults and treating various mental health conditions. I think this happens to many social workers as we become exposed to the various ways we can contribute to this field while upholding our core values.
What do you love about your job?
I love working with adults and providing evidence-based therapy interventions, but I also enjoy collaborating with other staff in my program to ensure clients are linked to additional support and resources as needed. I love that I can be a part of an organization that also continuously strives to implement new strategies and collaborative efforts to improve our community’s well-being as a whole.
