Kiva Williams, LCSW
Clinical & Intern Supervisor, Child Abuse and Trauma Services (CATS)
How did you get started in the field?
After many years of providing case management services to clients with severe mental illnesses and substance use challenges, I decided to enroll in OU’s social work program with a focus on direct practice. I began working for the child welfare system as a permanency planning specialist. I enjoyed helping children and families overcome traumatic experiences.
Why did you go into social work?
Growing up in an urban city with needs all around, I’ve always had the passion of wanting to help others. My journey initially began in the criminal justice field. I did not know much about social work and what the field entailed. As I began learning more about the field, I realized this was it for me! So, here I am as a licensed clinical social worker!
What do you love about your job?
As a clinical supervisor, I love to help others develop their skills as therapists. I like to help people. Helping new interns and clinicians strengthen their confidence and clinical skills, makes me smile and is rewarding.
