Ever heard of “Dry January?” Dry January began in 2012 as an initiative by British charity Alcohol Change UK to “ditch the hangover, reduce the waistline and save money by giving up alcohol for 31 days.” Millions of people now take part in the challenge, with more Americans taking notice each year. People who do not have an alcohol use disorder, but have noticed an increase in drinking habits over the past year, could benefit from the practice.
Dr. Stevan Lahr of Family & Children’s Services recently spoke to KOTV News on 6 about the mental health benefits of not drinking alcohol and how to know if alcohol is a problem. To seek services at F&CS, call 918.587.9471.
