I have suffered from depression my whole life. My mother ran an organized, calm home. My father was an alcoholic, but it didn’t really become an issue until I was in my teens. I believe my mental health condition is genetic. I remember feeling very angry as a child and wondering why.
In my early 20s, I lived from one crisis to the next, waiting for the next depressive episode to strike. Some days, I couldn’t even get out of bed. Eventually, I went for treatment at Family & Children’s Services. It made all the difference for me.
Today I’m active and feeling good. I’ve learned how to deal with depression, and I have support. If you feel you need help, get it. It’s okay. You’re not alone.
